Factors to look for in a gaming mouse

While not the end-all of accessories, gaming mice offer a new way to enjoy the games we play. Like most modified accessories for gaming, gaming mice usually offer some fancy new color scheme or the design looks futuristic. However, I believe there are a few ways gaming mice go unnoticed that should be brought up. Mostly the reasons I'll mention are responsible for either making or breaking an experience while gaming.

Macro Settings

The macro settings for a gaming mouse are major components to think of. This is because depending on the game, a mouse can help us a lot or do nothing. I'm referring to the macro settings like the ability to set the bonus keys on a mouse for different uses in your games. For example, in games like World of Warcraft it's common to have a mouse with over a dozen side buttons since in that game you constantly are using spells and abilities so having them in a quick place to reach is important. For a shooting game, It's common to really only need two side buttons one could be used for quick communication with your teammates while the other one could be a wildcard of your choice. The fact that you are able to program in the first place is important as, without those options, the mouse just has a lot of buttons to click on that don't do anything but give you the satisfaction of clicking. Also, make sure you have the appropriate mouse for each game. I don't think you need a mouse with a billion side buttons for a simple shooter or platformer, but I could be mistaken.

DPI

DPI refers to dots per inch and that entails the movement of the mouse to the placement of the cursor. Let's say if you have a DPI of 1000, every inch you move your mouse, it will move 1000 dots across the screen. DPI is an important factor to consider depending on the game. A shooter might require rapid movements of the mouse so having a mouse with a high DPI can eliminate the time of moving the cursor by a lot which may increase your performance in a game. However, a high DPI isn't always necessary as there are plenty of games where a low DPI might be preferable due to the nature being a lot slower. Most DPI on mice is quite high in terms of gaming variants but a good chunk of them can be modified.

Weight of the mouse

The weight of the mouse is also an important factor to consider since it can be traced to the reasons why DPI is important but also has a physical factor in it. Most people sometimes prefer a lighter mouse so they can find it easier to handle while some prefer it heavier since sometimes the mouse can feel too light. It really all depends on your wrist strength on this one and sees what you prefer. Also, you can't really modify it like DPI unless you find putting mini weights on your mouse is efficient.
