PC Pete's Recommended PC Build for May 2022

Throughout this blog, I made it my goal to ensure that I inform people about what goes into a gaming pc and the many ways you can enjoy that experience. Truth be told I’m using this blog as a way to better educate myself as well so I could get the most optimal experience while gaming as well. Not to mention that I am in dire need of a new system myself, so going over the basics again can help me find what parts I really need. I plan on using this post myself as a personal recommendation on what parts I feel are the best right now as well as something you could base on builds for your rigs. I’ll be going over the various parts of what makes up a gaming pc by providing an accurate definition and what part I believe is best for me based on my needs. Not to mention the availability of those parts since some of them aren’t going to be available for purchase anytime soon. This will be mainly focused on the hardware components as well as some accessories. Some things like operating systems really won’t make much of a difference since chances are if we want to game we will most likely use Windows.

Pete’s CPU of Choice: Intel – Core i5 12400

For my CPU of Choice, I went with the Core i5 12400. Intel is well known for its CPUs when it comes to gaming. To keep it short a CPU is the processor that’s responsible for the main calculations of the computer. Generally, this is truly the brain of the computer. This model is one of the best on the market not only in performance but also in price. I’m able to handle a lot that comes my way when it comes to gaming, while it stays as cool as a cucumber. If you are looking for a starter CPU then this one is for you!

Pete’s Motherboard of Choice: MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk WIFI DDR4

My motherboard of choice is the MSI Mag Z690.  A motherboard is the circuit board that contains the main components of a computer which allows them to interact with each other. The Z690 motherboard is one of the best right now and this model allows for the performance to exceed expectations without hurting the wallet. Thought it could use another USB port, this is a great way to ensure that all your parts are working.

Pete’s Graphics Card of Choice: Nvidia RTX 3060 TI

For my graphics card, I went with the RTX 3060 TI. A graphics card is responsible for processing the images to display on the monitor, essentially being the eyes of the computer. This graphics card is truly the best bang for your buck as you’re able to get amazing performance in graphics while still being very affordable despite the chip shortage that’s going around. With this, I’m able to enjoy games that have just been released as well as optimize my experience with games from before. Not to mention this is one of the widely available graphics cards.

Pete’s RAM of Choice: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB DDR4

For my RAM I went with the G.Skill Ripjaws. RAM is essentially the temporary memory that is available for programs to use. Honestly, any brand of RAM is perfect or recommended but I essentially chose this as it was the first option. The 32 GB allows me to have more than enough memory when playing games and doing things outside of them. Chances are this RAM is great for anything.

Pete’s SSD of Choice: Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe

For my SSD I went with Samsung and their 970 EVO model specializing in M.2. SSD is the solid-state drive and it stores the data for the computer. It’s able to hold a lot of data quite well and load programs that are on it at fast rates due to the lack of moving parts. The 1 TB is more than enough when it comes to storing the operating system as well as many of the games that I feel deserve to be on there.

Pete’s Hard drive of Choice: Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB 5400 RPM SATA lil 6Gb Harddrive.

For my Hard drive, I went with this Seagate Model. A hard drive is similar to that of the SSD as it stores the data in a permanent place but has moving parts. Fortunately, hard drives make up for loading time to ensure more data is placed on there. Luckily this Hard drive loads programs just as fast, has tons of storage and is quite affordable.

Pete’s Tower of Choice: Lancool II MESH Performance Type C Tempered Glass ATX Mid-Tower Computer Case

For my tower, I chose this model. A tower is essentially the body of the computer as it holds all the hardware needed. Most towers essentially serve the same purpose but the only difference is the appearance. I like how this looks and it’s quite affordable. I really don’t need a flashy case since this will be underneath my desk.

Pete’s CPU Cooling of Choice: Cooler Master - Hyper 212

I went with this CPU Cooling device. Essential a CPU cooler is just a way to keep all the components from overheating. There are two types of cooling as there are fans as well as liquid cooling. This is a Fan so it’s definitely more affordable than a liquid setup and cost less. I encourage you to use a fan for your main cooling as they are less risky to set up for beginners.

Pete’s Mouse of Choice: Logitech M510 wireless mouse

For my mouse, I went with the Logitech M510. A mouse is the pointing device of the computer and is responsible for interacting with the display. This is currently the mouse I have and it still works wonders. Despite being wireless it still has the responsiveness of a wired mouse and it’s pretty affordable. Now, this mouse requires AA batteries but honestly, the battery life is extremely long as I haven’t changed batteries in a few months. Not to mention if you feel this should be chargeable then by all means purchase a rechargeable AA to save some pennies. It also has a decent DPI as well as two buttons on the side for extra inputs for games. A solid mouse all around.

Pete’s Keyboard of Choice: Logitech G G213 Prodigy RGB Membrane Gaming Keyboard

For my keyboard, I went with another Logitech product this time using their gaming variant of keyboards. I’m pretty sure you know what a keyboard is but it’s essentially the input device based on a typewriter keyboard that all of the buttons have some form of input whether they are simple letters to commands. This keyboard is affordable but also comes with more features such as an RGB to add some personalization to the build. I’ll most likely just use the standard white backlights for this but I love that I have multiple options for coloring my keyboard.

Pete’s Monitor of Choice: ASUS - VG27WQ1B 27" 2K WQHD (2560 x 1440) 165Hz Curved Screen Gaming Monitor.

For my monitor of choice, I went with this ASUS monitor. A monitor is the display of the computer as it’s responsible for projecting the images that the computer runs. This is a perfect monitor size as it’s wide enough to fit on any desk. The refresh rate is also perfect as it’s accurate enough to display all the frames for my favorite games. The resolution is the best of both worlds since it's definitely a step up from 1080p. I never really cared for 4k as my eyesight isn’t the best so this is my go-to choice. I know most setups have more than one monitor usually going for two or three so they can run programs in the background without having to switch programs on one monitor. I am interested in that but I do lack the confidence that I have enough space on my desk to hold more than one monitor so I’m just using this as a placeholder as I figure out how to get two monitors on there.

There is my recommended PC build as of 2022. This is actually somewhat of a passion project as I’m currently on an internship so I’m hoping I can use a paycheck or two to afford this. Obviously, if you can afford more you can upgrade any of these parts or if you are a bit short on cash then simply downgrade. I’ll post the links to where you can get these products as well as Microcenter’s handy PC builder which I couldn’t have made this article without the help of it. As always, game on with Great Gear!
